Top 7 Tips: When Should You Buy Your Airline Ticket?

Filed under: Best Time to Buy, Cheap Airline Tickets — mike @ 12:22 pm

When is the best time to buy your airplane tickets?

    Short answer? It depends.

    • Depends on where you’re going.
    • Depends on your flexibility.
    • Depends on your willingness to take a risk.

It also depends on whether you go to FareCompare.com. If you do, you’re way ahead of the game. Thats because we provide you with all the information you need to make an informed purchase, including easy-to-read charts telling you about trends, price history and more.

FareCompare’s Top 7 - Tips on When to Buy Air Fares

TIP #1 - KNOW WHAT CHEAP MEANS: Be sure you understand what a real bargain for the flight you want, should cost. Farecompare.com keeps over 3-years of historic fare-information that shows you where the current market prices fall. If the current fare is at or near an all time low, BUY.

TIP #2 - LOOK AT PRICE SWINGS: Check the price volatility in your city-pair on FareCompare. If prices are bouncing around by $100 or more a few times a month, BUY ON A DOWN SWING.

TIP #3 - CHECK PRICE HISTORY: Know when the best time to buy was LAST year. Farecompare.com shows a 1-year history graph; it doesn’t mean history will repeat itself, but it often does. LOOK FOR HISTORICAL LOWS.

TIP #4 - LOOK FOR TRENDS: Look at FareCompare’s trend charts: if the prices are trending up, it may be a good time to buy even if the price is not especially low. KEEP PRICES IN PERSPECTIVE.

TIP #5 - GET FARECOMPARE’S FREE EMAIL ALERTS: This is so easy; simply go to FareCompare.com and get the FREE Email Alerts. that tell you exactly when prices have significantly changed. THIS LETS YOU BE FIRST IN LINE TO BUY THE CHEAPEST TICKETS.

TIP #6 - FOR DAREDEVILS ONLY: There are times when a last minute purchase for certain city-pairs is a super deal, but you must be flexible. FareCompare’s FREE Email Alerts are the perfect way to find these fares, but remember, YOU MUST BE FLEXIBLE.

TIP #7 - 14-DAY ADVANCE PURCHASE: This isn’t new, but its still worth repeating. NORMALLY, NO ADVANCE PURCHASE MEANS NO CHEAP FARES.

Most people stumble upon a good deal. Follow our tips, and you’ll find a good deal. And you wont have to worry if the guy sitting next to you on the plane, got a better one.

    2. Boy, am I glad to have found this website! My husband and I are celebrating our tenth wedding anniversary next spring with a Mediteranean cruise. Three couples from Norfolk England are joining us in Rome for 5/30 sailing. They can get really good fares from the local airport.

I can’t find anything to Rome for less than $1400 from BWI/DCA/IAD or less than a $1000 to Norfolk. This seems incredibly high.

    3. I want to say that I like this website, but even thou you don’t sell the ticket and I was sent to another website to purchase the ticket I asked about certain benefits such as AAA and AARP and I was informed that it was not being considered since I was going through them, but after doing my own checking found that the benefit of these mention was about $175.00 cheaper. So how can I still use your farecompare program and still get the right benefits especially since I am over 50? Thank you
